Paris or Barcelona

Paris follows the Seine and its neighbourhoods; Barcelona splits Gaudí, the old city, then the hill and the beach. Both 3-day plans already say which tickets to buy before you go.

Paris

Paris

Paris is easiest on foot when each day stays in one part of the city. Day one follows the Seine from Notre-Dame to the Louvre, day two crosses to Orsay, the Invalides and the Eiffel Tower, and day three climbs Montmartre before ending in the Marais. Book the Louvre, Sainte-Chapelle and the Eiffel Tower before you go.

  • Louvre: €22 for visitors from the European Economic Area and €32 for everyone else; under-18s go free. Closed on Tuesdays, open until 21:00 on Wednesdays and Fridays. Book a time slot, even with free admission.
  • Notre-Dame: entry is free. Reserving a free time slot on the cathedral's official website or app shortens the wait at the door.
  • Sainte-Chapelle: book a timed ticket on the official site; every visitor passes a security check at the Palais de Justice first.
Barcelona

Barcelona

Barcelona's sights fall into clear areas, so each day stays in one of them: day one is Gaudí, from the Sagrada Família and Park Güell to the houses of Passeig de Gràcia; day two walks the old city from La Rambla through the Gothic Quarter to El Born; day three climbs Montjuïc and ends on the beach. Book the Sagrada Família and Park Güell before you go.

  • Sagrada Família: open every day from 9:00 (10:30 on Sundays), with closing times that change by season. Book a timed ticket on the official website.
  • Park Güell: the Monumental Zone needs a timed ticket bought online on the official website, up to three months ahead. You can go in up to 30 minutes after the start of your slot.

A fourth day, or not

Is 3 days enough for Paris?

Three days cover the essentials at a reasonable pace: the islands and the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower side of the river, then Montmartre and the Marais. Versailles needs a fourth day on its own.

Is 3 days enough for Barcelona?

Three days cover Gaudí's major works, the old city and Montjuïc, with time on the beach. A fourth day allows a trip to Montserrat or a slower look at the modernist houses of the Eixample.
