How to choose
Eleven of the 24 experiences we list for Amsterdam are canal trips, and they set the shape of the whole list. Seven of those eleven last exactly an hour, and the median duration across all 24 listings is two hours. Prices start at €13 for a 75-minute cruise leaving from beside the Anne Frank House, and eight of the 24 come in under €20. What separates one boat from another is what is served and when it goes out: a saloon boat with drinks and cheese, an open boat with unlimited drinks, a sunset run, a three-course dinner cruise at €129.50, and one advertised as smoke-friendly. The €16.49 and €18.30 cruises carry 33,443 and 31,753 reviews respectively.
The rest of the list divides cleanly, and it leans on one museum. Five listings are ways into the Van Gogh Museum — plain entry, entry with audio, entry with a guide — against a single guided Rijksmuseum tour at €72.50 and one walking tour of the Anne Frank House area and the Jewish Quarter at €15.05. Two food tours serve ten tastings each, at €79 for three and a half hours and €84.60 for three, both rated 4.9 or above. Four trips leave the city: Zaanse Schans in three and a half hours, a six-and-a-half-hour loop adding Edam, Volendam and Marken, a four-hour countryside bike ride, and twelve hours to Bruges, which at 4.0 is the lowest-rated listing here.
The Van Gogh Museum sells its own ticket at €25, online only and for a timed slot, with under-18s free. Our five Van Gogh listings run from €39 to €70, so the difference buys an audio guide or a live guide, not entry you could not get yourself. All three listings without free cancellation are Van Gogh tickets.
Anne Frank House tickets come only from the museum's own website, released six weeks ahead, and none are sold at the door, so no listing here is a way around that queue. Rijksmuseum tickets carry a set date and entry time and should be bought before you travel. For trams, tap in and out with the same contactless card or phone.

Eleven of the 24 experiences we list are canal trips, and eight listings overall cost under €20, starting at €13 for 75 minutes. At that price the question is less whether to go than which boat: an hour is the standard length, and the differences are drinks, cheese, a live guide or an evening departure. The €129.50 dinner cruise, at 150 minutes, is the outlier.
The museum sells its tickets online only, at €25, each for a timed entry slot, so buy before you arrive rather than turning up. One of our listings is a last-minute flexible entry at €42.22; the other four Van Gogh options run from €39 to €70. Note that these three ticket-only listings are the only ones in our Amsterdam list without free cancellation.
Four of the 24 listings leave the city. Two go to Zaanse Schans: three and a half hours for the windmills, clogs and cheese, or six and a half hours that adds Edam, Volendam and Marken. A four-hour countryside bike tour covers the same themes on two wheels, and Bruges is a twelve-hour day at €41.30.
