How to choose
Boats outnumber guided walks here nine to two. Nine of the 24 experiences put you on the water: four harbour cruises, two of them at sunset and one a dinner boat, two trips under sail, a three-and-a-half-hour whale-watching run, the fast ferry to Salem, and the amphibious duck tour, whose 10,020 reviews are the most on the page. Four trolleys carry the rest of the sightseeing, one of them a ghost tour, and at 4.3 to 4.5 they rate below every walk and every food tour here. Set against all of that are two guided walks. The median length is two hours, and 14 of the 24 end at or before that mark.
Those two walks run 2.5 and three hours, at €34.35, rated 4.9 from 7,869 reviews, and €51.96, rated 5.0. Above the €47.95 median the list turns to food and distance. All four food tours cost more than €70, and three of them work the same North End streets at €76.17, €86.30 and €87.18. The two twelve-hour trips out of town, Martha's Vineyard at €113.60 and a White Mountains foliage day at €132.10, run more than three times longer than anything else on the page. Nothing here is sold as a private tour, no listing crosses to Cambridge or Harvard, and no art museum appears in any title.
Not everything worth seeing needs a paid tour. USS Constitution is free to visit: expect a security check, and anyone aged 18 or over must show federal or state photo ID. The ICA opens Tuesday to Sunday and is free for everyone on Thursday evenings, with tickets booked in advance. Neither is covered by any of the 24 listings.
Where booking does pay: the Tea Party Ships museum starts its tours at 10:00, runs about an hour and recommends booking ahead, which is precisely what the €31.70 admission on this page is. The art museums missing from the list you arrange yourself, and the Isabella Stewart Gardner closes on Tuesdays and asks for advance timed entry. Free cancellation applies right across the 24.

Two of the 24 listings are guided walks: 2.5 hours of Freedom Trail history at €34.35, rated 4.9 from 7,869 reviews, and a three-hour revolutionary-history walk at €51.96, rated 5.0. Whichever you pick, the sites along the route are ticketed and timed by their own owners, so check each separately. Old North Church opens 10:00–17:00, its ticket covering the sanctuary and the crypt with a timed bell-chamber tour you can add, while the Paul Revere House runs 10:00–17:15 from 15 April to 31 October, 10:00–16:15 in winter, and closes on Mondays in January, February and March. USS Constitution is free, with a security check and photo ID for anyone 18 or over.
Four trolleys are listed, from €33.46 for a non-stop 80-minute loop to €45.31 for the 13-stop hop-on-hop-off, and at 4.3 to 4.5 they rate below every walk and every food tour on this page. As transport they are up against the MBTA, where the standard fare on buses and the subway is paid by tapping a contactless bank card, phone or watch on the Charlie reader at the fare gate or on board. Buy a trolley for the narrated loop rather than for getting around. The fourth of them is a ghost tour at €40.69, which is a different purchase altogether.
Three of the four food tours cover the same neighbourhood, so the choice comes down to length and rating: €76.17 for two to three hours, 4.8 from 1,604 reviews; €86.30 for the pizza, pasta and pastries version, rated 5.0 from 620; and €87.18 for three hours, rated 4.8 from 817. The fourth food tour leaves the North End for the Fish Pier, 2.5 hours at €70.98, rated 4.9 from 569 reviews. Food is the expensive end of this page: all four cost more than €70 against a €47.95 median, and only three listings, the two twelve-hour day trips and the dinner cruise, cost more than the dearest of them.
