How to choose

Nine of the 24 Bruges tours meet cruise ships

Nine of the 24 experiences we list for Bruges are built around the cruise port at Zeebrugge, and they pull the page towards the long end. Eight are guided days ashore of five to six hours: seven shared, between €55 and €68, plus one private at €635 that has no rating and no reviews. The ninth is not a tour but a return shuttle between port and city, listed at 20 minutes and €30, and its 1,259 reviews are more than any other listing here carries. Set those nine aside and Bruges is a city of short outings: the median length across all 24 is two and three-quarter hours, nine cost under €50, and nothing is a day trip out of town — the one tour that visits Ghent starts in Brussels, at €899.

The short end is eating and drinking. Thirteen of the 24 titles name chocolate, beer, waffles or tastings, and seven sell nothing else: three chocolate workshops, at €45 for an hour at Choco-Story, €58 for two and a half hours and €59 for two; a 90-minute waffles-and-beer workshop at €49; a six-beer tasting with cheese at €25; and food tours at €129 and €135. Seven more are guided tours of the city, from €25 for two hours to a €119 private tour with a boat ride, and only one of them is on wheels — a retro bike tour at €45, rated 5.0 from 454 reviews. Eleven listings reach a canal boat, two only as an option, but none sells the boat alone, and no title here names a museum or the Belfry.

What to know before you book in Bruges

Nothing in this list is a ticket. No title names the Belfry, the Groeningemuseum or Sint-Janshospitaal, so a guided tour here buys you a guide and, in most cases, a canal boat — not entry. Reserve the Belfry yourself, online and ahead, and check its current visitor calendar; the climb uses steep stairs, and there is a square-only option if the ascent is unsuitable.

Historium sells its Story, VR and tower as separate ticket options, each with its own last start time, so choose before you go. Groeningemuseum normally closes Mondays, and so does the Sint-Janshuismolen interior, which opens seasonally and breaks at midday; the rampart walk outside is the alternative when the mill is shut. Adornes Domain keeps its own calendar, and its church and estate are one visit. Every one of the 24 listings can be cancelled free of charge.

Quick answers

Do I need to book a canal cruise in Bruges?

None of the 24 experiences we list sells a canal cruise on its own. Eleven include a boat, and two of those treat it as an option you pick on the day. The cheapest firm inclusion is a €38 guided walk of two and a half hours with a canal cruise and tastings, rated 4.9; the €44 version, which swaps the tastings for chocolate, carries 913 reviews. Book a tour for the guide and treat the boat as what comes with it.

Can I see Bruges on a Zeebrugge cruise stop?

Nine of our 24 listings exist for exactly that. Eight are guided days ashore of five to six hours — seven shared at €55 to €68, one private at €635 — and six of the eight name a canal cruise. The ninth is a return shuttle between the port and the city at €30, listed at 20 minutes, and with 1,259 reviews it is the most reviewed thing on this page. All of them can be cancelled free of charge.

What can I do in Bruges on a Monday?

Groeningemuseum normally closes on Mondays, and so does the Sint-Janshuismolen interior, so a Monday suits outdoor walking or a table. Thirteen of our 24 listings name chocolate, beer, waffles or tastings, among them three chocolate workshops from €45 and a 90-minute waffles-and-beer workshop at €49. The rampart walk by the windmill works whether or not the mill interior is open that day. Check the schedules of the other indoor venues separately before fixing the day.
