How to choose

Ten of these 23 tours leave the city

Ten of the 23 experiences we list for Florence leave the city. Four of those run twelve hours or more: three circuits of Siena, San Gimignano and Pisa, and a thirteen-hour trip to Cinque Terre. The other six are Chianti and Tuscan countryside outings, the shortest four and three-quarter hours, the longest nine. Seven listings run six hours or longer, and every one of them leaves Florence. Reviews follow the same pull: those ten out-of-town listings hold 73,594 reviews between them against 34,886 for the thirteen that stay, and the most reviewed item of all, with 23,903, is a twelve-hour day trip at €95. Across all 23 the median length is four hours forty-five minutes and the median price €64.

The thirteen that stay in Florence divide almost entirely between two things. Eight are built on the Accademia, the Uffizi or the Duomo, from €20 to €127 with a median of €52: five name David or the Accademia, five the cathedral or its dome, three the Uffizi. Four are food-led — two pasta classes at €25 and €29.80, two evening food walks at €69.97 and €109 — and the thirteenth is a private golf cart circuit of an hour or two for €68. What is absent is the south bank. No title names Pitti Palace, the Boboli Gardens, Santa Croce, Piazzale Michelangelo or San Miniato, and nothing runs on the Arno. Wine, a winery or a vineyard is named in eleven of the 23 titles, more often than any single monument.

What to know before you book in Florence

The cathedral itself is free, so a Duomo tour is selling a guide and the other monuments of the complex, which require the appropriate pass. A dome climb is not a queue you can jump: its entry time is the slot you select when buying a Brunelleschi Pass. Our five Duomo listings run from €20 to €127, and the €20 option carries the weakest rating in the set, 3.9 from 961 reviews.

The Uffizi normally closes on Mondays, so check its published calendar before fixing a date and confirm any special opening separately. Its five-day combined ticket also covers Pitti Palace and Boboli, and the Uffizi is the first museum to visit under that ticket, so the order of your days matters. Twenty-two of our 23 listings offer free cancellation; the exception is the €48.99 Uffizi and Accademia timed entry.

Quick answers

Can I climb the dome without a tour?

Entry to the cathedral itself is free, but the dome and the other monuments of the complex need the appropriate pass, and the climb runs on the time slot you choose when you buy a Brunelleschi Pass. So no guided product can move you up the queue; what it adds is commentary and a fixed start. Two of our listings are built around the climb: a three-hour version at €109 rated 4.9, and a short express tour from €20 that offers the climb as an upgrade.

Is a guide worth it at the Accademia?

Five of our 23 listings cover David. The cheapest, €28, is sold as a timed entrance ticket rather than a guided visit, while the shortest guided version runs 65 minutes at €37 — so roughly €9 separates entry from entry with a guide. The other three fold the gallery into longer circuits with the Duomo or the Uffizi, at €48.99, €55 and €127.

How long do the Tuscany day trips take?

Four of the ten out-of-town listings take twelve hours or more: three visiting Siena, San Gimignano and Pisa at €45.50, €58.50 and €95, and a thirteen-hour Cinque Terre trip at €49.50. The shorter options stay closer, in Chianti or the Tuscan countryside — five hours from €55, or four and three-quarter hours at €89. Read the stated finishing time first and keep that evening unbooked.
