How to choose

Eight of Taipei's 24 tours run to Jiufen

Eight of the 24 experiences we list for Taipei name Jiufen, six name Shifen, five Yehliu and three Pingxi. It is one circuit northeast of the city — Yehliu Geopark, Shifen Waterfall, the Pingxi sky lanterns — recombined eight ways, and those eight listings hold 2,108 of the page's 7,133 reviews. The middle of the list sits at eight hours and €105.68, so these are full days with a driver rather than morning walks. Taipei's own landmarks barely appear in the titles: not one names Taipei 101, Longshan Temple, the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Elephant Mountain or a night market. A single listing names the National Palace Museum, and it is the lowest-rated product here.

Nine of the 24 stay in the city, and four of those are about eating: three tasting walks at €61.21, €111.68 and €48.43, running three to three and a half hours, plus a three-hour class making soup dumplings, beef noodles and bubble tea at €78.38. The other five are custom sightseeing days, among them the busiest product on the page — a full-day private car and guide, €105.68, 1,047 reviews — and a six-hour layover tour from Taoyuan airport at €101.27. Thirteen listings are private, only three small-group. Four titles involve Keelung, three of them sold as shore excursions or port pickups, and three run longer than a day: two 48-hour Alishan trips and a five-day circuit of the island at €695.71.

Book the coast, not the city centre

Central Taipei needs little booking. Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is free and open daily 9:00–18:00, with a fifteen-minute guard drill on the hour from 9:00 to 17:00, cancelled in rain. Longshan Temple runs 6:00–22:00, last admission 21:45. Metro gates take a contactless Visa, Mastercard, JCB or UnionPay card or a phone wallet at the single-journey fare, and an EasyCard also covers buses.

Two tickets deserve a look before you commit to a tour. The National Palace Museum costs NT$350 and opens Tuesday to Sunday 9:00–17:00, closed Mondays; one listing here includes that entry, at 4.2 the weakest score on the page. Taipei 101's observatory counter opens at 11:00, and full-price tickets are sold online while discounted ones are only sold at the counter. Twenty-one of the 24 allow free cancellation; the three that do not are the multi-day trips.

Quick answers

Is a Jiufen and Shifen day tour worth booking?

Eight of the 24 go there, and they differ mainly in how many people share the vehicle. A nine-hour shared day with a ticket included costs €38.75, the small-group departure €74.86, and private cars start at €87.18 for six hours and reach €267.82. Ratings run from 4.7 to 5.0 and free cancellation applies to all eight. What you are buying is a day's driving between three or four separate places, which is why even the shortest of them runs six hours.

Can I see Taipei 101 or the National Palace Museum on a tour?

No title on this page mentions Taipei 101. One covers the museum: a four-hour morning city tour at €45.79 that includes National Palace Museum entry, rated 4.2 from 245 reviews and the only listing here below 4.7. Admission on its own is NT$350, Tuesday to Sunday 9:00–17:00, closed Mondays. For the tower, the observatory counter opens at 11:00, with full-price tickets online and discounted ones sold only at the counter.

What is worth booking if I only have half a day?

Not much of this list is short, since eight hours is the middle. The quick options are three food walks of three to three and a half hours at €48.43, €61.21 and €111.68, a three-hour cooking class at €78.38 and the four-hour city morning tour at €45.79. On a stopover, a six-hour private layover tour from Taoyuan airport costs €101.27 and is rated 5.0 from 305 reviews.
