How to choose

Nine hours is the median Zurich tour

Nine hours is the median length of the 23 experiences we list for Zurich, and thirteen of them run eight hours or longer. Fifteen titles name somewhere that is not Zurich. Seven go to the Bernese Oberland — Interlaken, Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Jungfraujoch — and five name Lucerne, with one listing doing both; three of the Lucerne days add a summit on Titlis or Pilatus. Two cross borders, one to Liechtenstein and one billed as four countries in a day at €378.89. Two sell a scenic train: the Glacier Express at €487.14, the dearest thing on the page, and a panoramic service at €341. The shortest run out of town is Rhine Falls and Stein am Rhein, five and a quarter hours at €75.78.

The eight listings that stay in Zurich are a different product. Every one finishes within six hours, and they cost €50 to €149.99 against €75.78 to €487.14 for the trips out. Four put a boat under you, two ride the Felsenegg cable car, and five titles name chocolate or Lindt. Two are two-hour walks: the old town at €50, the cheapest thing here, and a chocolate walk at €102.84 rated 5.0 from 117 reviews. Bookings and ratings pull apart in this set. The two most reviewed, the cruise and Lindt outing with 1,162 and the Felsenegg circuit with 1,319, both sit at 4.2, while the 4.9-rated walk, cruise and cable car combination has 332. Museums are the gap: not one title mentions one.

What to know before you book in Zurich

Not one of the 23 includes museum admission, so the fee covers a guide, a coach or a boat and leaves the two main collections for you to arrange. The Swiss National Museum and the Kunsthaus normally shut on Mondays and sell their own tickets. Check the National Museum for current hours and which exhibitions your ticket covers, and note that Kunsthaus collection and special-exhibition coverage can differ.

Kunsthaus galleries close shortly before the building does, so a late arrival is a short one. Fraumünster publishes separate information for sightseeing and for worship, so check its visitor arrangements before you fix the stained-glass visit. Uetliberg is a rail connection and a walk, with the tower and the longer ridge route to Felsenegg listed as optional; check the current connection and what your ticket covers. Twenty-two of the 23 cancel free.

Quick answers

Is a Jungfraujoch day trip from Zurich worth it?

It takes a full day and costs more than any other mountain here. The two Jungfraujoch listings run 11.5 and 12 hours at €312.85 and €286.87, rated 4.7 from 1,683 reviews and 4.6 from 1,509. If you want a summit for less, Titlis with Lucerne is ten hours at €178.62, rated 4.5 from 2,021, and Pilatus with Lucerne is ten hours at €182.95, rated 4.6 from 771.

Do I need a tour to get up Uetliberg?

No. Zürich Tourism describes Uetliberg as a rail connection plus a walk, with the observation tower and the longer ridge route to Felsenegg optional; check the current connection and what your ticket covers. Two of the 23 listings include the Felsenegg cable car: the six-hour walk, cruise and cable car combination at €92.02, rated 4.9 from 332 reviews, and the 4.5-hour Best of Zurich at €64.52, rated 4.2 from 1,319. Both wrap the ride inside a wider city tour rather than selling the hill on its own.

Which Zurich chocolate tour should I book?

Five of the 23 titles name chocolate or Lindt, at lengths from two hours to nine. The two-hour chocolate walking tour is the best rated at 5.0 from 117 reviews and costs €102.84, and the 3.5-hour food tour with ten tastings including chocolates rates 4.9 from 559 at €149.99. The most booked is the 5.25-hour cruise and Lindt outing at €81.51, which is also the lowest rated of the five at 4.2 from 1,162 reviews. The three-to-four-hour city tour with chocolate tasting and a lake cruise is €124.49 and 4.8 from 73, and the nine-hour Rapperswil, cheese and Lindt Home of Chocolate day is €113.67 with 5.0 from 28.
