Getting around

  • The metro is a useful way to shorten journeys across central Athens. Ath.ena tickets and cards are available at stations; check the fare product separately for airport travel.Source: This is Athens · checked Sep 2026

Quick answers

Does one ticket cover the Acropolis and its museum?

Do not assume so: the Acropolis Museum sells its own ticket. Check the current archaeological-site tickets separately through the official information link.

Where should I stay?

Koukaki and the Acropolis Museum area suit the first two days. Syntagma and Monastiraki are convenient for public transport and the wider city.

How much walking should I expect?

The route groups neighbouring sites but includes hills, archaeological surfaces and walking inside large museums. The printed distance is only between pins and excludes the public-transport transfer on day three.

3 days in Athens

Pair the Acropolis with its museum, then spend a separate day among the agoras and lanes below the hill. The final day broadens the view with the National Archaeological Museum before moving to Syntagma, the National Garden and the marble stadium. Each archaeological complex gets one substantial visit, including its temples and monuments.
