The cathedral quarter, Alhambra and hillside Granada

Plan around a confirmed Alhambra ticket before choosing the order of the days. The Nasrid Palaces entry time controls that day; the schedule below assumes a suitable morning slot. Allow extra time for hills, uneven paving and heat. Hotel and airport journeys are additional, as are transfers to the first stop of each day.

1Cathedral

Granada Cathedral

Visit the cathedral’s public interior and appreciate its scale from several viewpoints. The adjoining Royal Chapel has a separate entrance and is the next stop, rather than something assumed to be included here.

  • Plan about 1 h 15 min
  • Check sightseeing hours around services and current ticket coverage

3Historic market lanes

Alcaicería

Walk a short circuit through the narrow market lanes, looking at their layout and shopfronts. Browsing is the purpose of this stop; a long shopping session needs additional time.

  • Plan about 30 min
  • Shop opening varies; respect private interiors

Midday

LunchHave lunch in the centre and take a proper break before the monastery visit.

4Historic courtyard

Corral del Carbón

Step through the decorated gateway and explore the visitor-accessible courtyard. The short stop leaves space to read the site’s interpretation without treating every surrounding street as another attraction.

  • Plan about 30 min
  • Check public gate hours; cultural events can change the available space

5Monastery

Monastery of San Jerónimo

Visit the accessible monastic spaces and church with the current visitor ticket. Leave room to look at the decoration, then return to the centre at an easy pace.

  • Plan about 1 h 15 min
  • Confirm the afternoon visiting window before leaving the cathedral area

Evening

DinnerStay in central Granada for dinner; a longer tapas circuit can use the evening.

Day 2

A full Alhambra and Generalife day

Reserve the morning for the palaces, Alcazaba and Partal, following the exact Nasrid Palaces time on your ticket. Continue to Generalife after lunch. If your booked slot is later, reverse the internal order and put the gardens first; do not leave the timed entrance until the end of an improvised route.

1Palace and fortress complex

Alhambra: palaces, Alcazaba and Partal

Reserve a full morning for the Nasrid Palaces, Alcazaba and Partal areas included in your chosen ticket. Arrange the internal order around the exact Nasrid Palaces entry time. The Palace of Charles V courtyard can fit along the way; an extended museum visit cannot.

  • Plan about 4 h
  • Book ahead, carry the required original ID and arrive at the Nasrid Palaces at the stated time

Midday

LunchPlan a lunch break that respects your ticket and internal access rules. Carry the ticket throughout and allow time to reach the next controlled entrance.

2Palace gardens

Generalife

Continue the same Alhambra visit through the Generalife palace and gardens. This separate map stop covers the garden section only, so it does not repeat the palaces and fortress time already allocated.

  • Plan about 1 h 30 min
  • Keep your ticket; check its coverage and allow time to move between controlled entrances

Evening

DinnerReturn to the city at an easy pace, allowing about 40 minutes for descent or local transport and waiting. Keep dinner relaxed. No extra museum is scheduled.

Day 3

The Darro, Albaicín and Sacromonte

Begin at El Bañuelo, continue along the Darro to Paseo de los Tristes, then climb to Casa del Chapiz. After lunch, visit San Nicolás viewpoint and the Sacromonte Cave Museum. This is the hilliest day: use a suitable local connection for the longer climb if needed, and reach the museum before its final entry.

2Riverside walk

Paseo de los Tristes and the Darro

Follow a selected stretch of the river to the open space of Paseo de los Tristes, pausing for views up toward the Alhambra. The allowance includes uneven paving and a few short rests.

  • Plan about 45 min
  • Keep clear of local traffic and allow extra time on the cobbled route

3Historic houses and gardens

Casa del Chapiz

Visit the parts of the houses and gardens open to the public. This is also an academic institution, so the visitor route does not extend to offices or research spaces.

  • Plan about 1 h
  • Check the public-access timetable before climbing the hill

Midday

LunchEat near the Albaicín route and take time to rest before the final hillside section.

Afternoon

4Albaicín viewpoint

Mirador de San Nicolás

Walk to the viewpoint for the view across the valley to the Alhambra. Spend time in the surrounding public square without assuming church-tower access or reserving the stop for sunset.

  • Plan about 45 min
  • The approach is uphill; keep the square and entrances passable
Allow about 40 minutes from San Nicolás to the cave museum, including the hilly walk or an appropriate local connection and the final uphill approach.
Sacromonte Cave Museum

5Cave-house museum

Sacromonte Cave Museum

Explore the museum’s cave-house displays and interpretation of the neighbourhood’s traditions and environment. This is a defined museum visit, not entry into the private homes of Sacromonte.

  • Plan about 1 h 30 min
  • Allow extra time for the hillside approach; a flamenco performance is a separate booking

Evening

DinnerReturn to your base with an additional 30–45 minutes allowed. A flamenco show is optional and needs a separate reservation.

3 days in Granada: quick answers

Should I book the Alhambra first?

Yes. A confirmed ticket, particularly the Nasrid Palaces time, should determine which day you use for the monument.

Are Alhambra and Generalife two full visits?

They are two sections of the same day. The first stop covers palaces, fortress and Partal; the second covers Generalife, with no repeated visit allowance.

Can I use an afternoon Nasrid Palaces ticket?

Yes. Reorder that day around the exact time and visit the gardens or other included areas earlier. Check entry conditions before leaving any controlled area.

Is the route flat?

No. The Alhambra and Albaicín/Sacromonte days involve slopes, steps or uneven surfaces. Add rests and use local transport where appropriate.

Does the itinerary include a flamenco show?

No performance is assumed. Book one separately and protect time for dinner and the return journey.
