  • Plan about 20 min
  • The bridge carries traffic; use the pedestrian crossings

Midday

LunchTake lunch near the market before the castle ascent. For Sundays and holidays, check which market sections and stalls operate; their seasonal schedules differ.

  • Plan about 45 min
  • The public square does not imply unrestricted town-hall interior access

Evening

DinnerStay near the old town for dinner, with time for a short evening river stroll.

Day 2

Art, Tivoli and cultural collections

Start at Congress Square, visit the National Gallery and take lunch nearby. Walk through the city-facing part of Tivoli, then cross the centre to the Slovene Ethnographic Museum. Keep the park route short and reach the museum with at least 90 minutes before closing.

3 days in Ljubljana: quick answers

Can I do this without a car?

Yes. The central route is walkable and the castle has a funicular option. Allow for the longer Tivoli-to-Metelkova walk and your hotel journeys.

Is the castle funicular time included?

Yes. Separate allowances cover reaching the castle and returning to the old town; the castle stop itself is for sightseeing.

Can I enter Plečnik’s original home independently?

No. Its original rooms require the organised small-group tour. Reserve a place and use the exhibition while waiting if access permits.

What changes on Monday?

Several museums normally close Mondays. Use the river-and-castle day then, after checking the market and castle calendars.

Does this include Lake Bled?

No. A Bled excursion needs transport and its own day; it would replace a Ljubljana day.
