Medieval streets, Kadriorg art and maritime Tallinn

Use three full days and arrange the Kadriorg museum day away from Kumu’s normal Monday closure. The maritime museums have seasonal weekly calendars, while church towers and Town Hall interiors have their own visitor periods. The route leaves beach trips and distant districts for another day. Hotel, ferry-terminal and airport connections are additional.

1Upper town and cathedral

Toompea and Alexander Nevsky Cathedral

Look at Toompea’s civic buildings from the public streets, then visit Alexander Nevsky Cathedral when permitted. The castle exterior and cathedral share one compact stop; Parliament interiors require separate arrangements.

  • Plan about 1 h
  • Respect services and photography rules inside the cathedral

2Dome church

St Mary’s Cathedral

Visit the Dome Church on Toompea, looking at its memorials and interior. A tower climb is an optional replacement for part of the visit rather than an automatic extra.

  • Plan about 45 min
  • Check church and tower access separately

3Old-town viewpoint

Kohtuotsa viewpoint

Take in the roofs and lower town from Kohtuotsa. The short visit allows for the narrow approach and a pause without adding another similar viewpoint to the day.

  • Plan about 30 min
  • Leave room for other visitors; surfaces can be slippery

Midday

LunchEat on or below Toompea, keeping the fortification museum’s admission time in view.

Explore a selected museum route through the defensive history of Tallinn. Choose your ticket and any underground passage arrangements before arrival so that tours fit the afternoon.

  • Plan about 2 h
  • Some sections and tours have separate access conditions

5Civic square

Town Hall Square and Town Hall

Walk around the square and visit the Town Hall interior when its public calendar permits. Outside interior opening periods, use the hour for the square and adjoining streets.

  • Plan about 1 h
  • The Town Hall and tower have seasonal visitor schedules

Evening

DinnerChoose dinner in the old town. Extra towers and underground tours need separate time.

Day 2

Kadriorg Park and two art museums

Travel to Kadriorg before the first stop. Follow a selected park circuit, visit the palace art museum and take lunch before Kumu. Both museums get distinct visit time; Pirita beach and the Song Festival Grounds are not part of this afternoon.

Kadriorg Park

Begin the eastern-city day with a selected park circuit around the palace gardens and ponds. Keep the museum visits in mind rather than attempting every distant corner of the park.

  • Plan about 1 h 30 min
  • Park walking is separate from the palace museum admission

  • Plan about 1 h 30 min
  • Opening days vary seasonally; check the palace museum’s own calendar

Midday

LunchEat in the Kadriorg area before the longer Kumu visit. Check café hours or choose a nearby restaurant.

3Art museum

Kumu Art Museum

Spend the afternoon on a focused route through Estonian art and the exhibitions available. Two and a half hours allows a substantial visit without promising the entire building.

  • Plan about 2 h 30 min
  • Normally closed Mondays; check which exhibitions your ticket covers

Evening

DinnerReturn toward your accommodation for dinner. Allow time for the local transport connection after the galleries close.

Day 3

From the Seaplane Harbour to old-town lanes

Give the Seaplane Harbour a substantial morning visit and take lunch before returning toward the old town. Continue at Fat Margaret, then finish with St Olaf’s Church and St Catherine’s Passage. A tower climb would shorten the final street walk.

1Maritime museum

Seaplane Harbour

Explore the hangar’s main maritime displays and any vessels available with your ticket. Allow extra time if you want every interactive activity or a detailed visit to all museum ships.

  • Plan about 2 h 30 min
  • Museum ships and indoor displays can have different last-entry times

Midday

LunchEat near the harbour before the connection to Fat Margaret; do not count lunch inside the museum visit allowance.

Afternoon

Allow about 30 minutes for the harbour-to-old-town connection, including a suitable local service or the full walk and crossings.

Fat Margaret Maritime Museum

Continue the maritime theme at Fat Margaret, with a focused look at the exhibitions inside the old defensive tower. It complements the harbour museum rather than repeating the same building.

  • Plan about 1 h 30 min
  • Check the seasonal weekly calendar and last admission

3Church

St Olaf’s Church

Visit the church when open and look along the surrounding old-town streets. The base plan does not require a tower climb after the two museums.

  • Plan about 45 min
  • Tower opening is seasonal and separate from ordinary church access

4Historic passage

St Catherine’s Passage

Finish with a short walk through the passage and nearby lanes. Workshop interiors are optional and depend on individual opening hours.

  • Plan about 30 min
  • Keep residential entrances clear and do not assume all workshops are open

Evening

DinnerFinish with dinner in the lower old town. Check winter daylight and the churches’ visitor hours.

3 days in Tallinn: quick answers

Is the old town enough for all three days?

The old town can fill several days, but this plan also gives Kadriorg and the maritime museums their own time for a broader first visit.

Can I walk every connection?

The old-town sections are compact. Kadriorg and the Seaplane Harbour are farther away; use local transport when useful and allow time beyond the between-stop estimates.

Are all towers included?

No. The Dome Church and St Olaf’s tower climbs are optional, while the Town Hall interior depends on its visitor calendar.

Can I combine Kadriorg with Pirita?

That would shorten the museum visits. Keep Pirita for another day or replace one art museum rather than adding it to the full programme.

Which day should avoid Monday?

The Kumu day should normally avoid Monday. Maritime opening also varies seasonally, so check the museum calendars before ordering the days.
