York’s cathedral, medieval streets, archaeology and railway collections

Use three full days and book the Minster, Treasurer’s House and JORVIK before fixing the order. Treasurer’s House is seasonal with limited guided sessions; outside its visiting season, replace that stop with an available central collection. The Yorkshire Museum day normally belongs Tuesday to Sunday. Hotel and first-stop journeys are additional.

Day 1

The Minster and medieval streets

Choose a morning Minster sightseeing session and a compatible Treasurer’s House tour in its visiting season. Give the cathedral two hours before the nearby guided house visit. After lunch, walk the Shambles and continue to Merchant Adventurers’ Hall with 75 minutes available before closing. Swap the two morning visits if the reserved tour requires it.

3 days in York: quick answers

Does the walls stop cover the full circuit?

No. It covers the section from Monk Bar to Bootham Bar, including pauses and descent. A complete city-walls circuit needs additional time.

Is Treasurer’s House available in winter?

It has a seasonal guided programme. Check the calendar and replace the stop with an available central collection outside its visiting season.

Are Clifford’s Tower and Castle Museum duplicates?

No. The tower is a historic structure and viewpoint; the museum contains substantial social-history collections.

Does this include Castle Howard?

No. Castle Howard and other countryside estates are separate excursions outside this compact York plan.

Are Museum Gardens and the abbey ruins separate stops?

They are combined in one hour-long outdoor circuit before the Yorkshire Museum opens.
