Finding experiences in Istanbul…

Prices are starting prices in EUR and may vary by date, group size and option. Check availability and full terms on Viator before booking.

Search covers the whole collection for this city, not just the experiences shown. Price, length and sorting are applied before the list is built; when a search is running, price and length are applied to the results on this page. The featured order may reflect reviews, popularity, bookings and payments from operators.

How to choose

Istanbul's tours stay inside the city

Not one of the 23 experiences we list for Istanbul leaves the city. There are no coach day trips and no out-of-town excursions; everything happens inside the metropolitan area. Seven are full-day city tours — six of them private, one a small group with lunch — and they carry the heaviest review counts here, one of them 10,150. Five are guided entries to the Sultanahmet monuments, split between Hagia Sophia with the Blue Mosque and Basilica Cistern, and Topkapı Palace with the Harem. Four are on the Bosphorus, three are food or dinner experiences, two are airport and cruise-port transfers, one is a hammam and one is a multi-day attraction pass. The median length is three hours.

That shape changes what you are comparing. Where half a list leaves town, a tour is mostly buying you transport; here it is buying a guide and a route across a city divided by water. The six private tours run from four hours to a full day, and the longest listing is sold as one, two or three days. The counterweight is short and cheap: a two-hour Bosphorus cruise starts at €10, against a median price of about €70 across the 23. Ratings sit in a narrow band — nothing below 4.6, eight products at a flat 5.0, 33,909 reviews in total — so length and group size are more useful filters here than score.

What to know before you book in Istanbul

Since January 2024, foreign visitors pay €25 at Hagia Sophia for the visitor route through the upper galleries, entered separately from the worshippers' entrance. Four of the five guided monument tours here say the tickets are included, and the cheapest is €39, so what you add over the door price is a guide and a fixed start time.

Topkapı Palace opens 9:00 to 17:00 with ticket sales ending at 16:00, and closes on Tuesdays; Dolmabahçe Palace closes on Mondays. The two Topkapı tours here run three hours each, so a late-afternoon start does not fit. Contactless bank cards and phones also work on the ferries, trams, metro and buses.

Quick answers

Do I need a guided tour for Hagia Sophia?

No. Foreign visitors pay €25 for the visitor route through the upper galleries, entered separately from the worshippers' entrance. Five of the 23 experiences we list are guided visits to the Sultanahmet monuments, starting at €39, and four of them include the tickets. The tour adds a guide and a fixed start time, not entry.

Is a Bosphorus cruise worth booking?

Four of the 23 products are on the water: a two-hour sightseeing cruise from €10, two yacht cruises of two and a half hours, and a three-hour dinner cruise with a show. Public ferries take contactless bank cards and phones, so a plain crossing needs no booking. Book when you want a set departure time, a table or dinner.

Is it safe to go out in the evening in Istanbul?

UK government travel advice reports that street robbery and pickpocketing are common in the main tourist areas, and warns about friendly strangers who invite you to a bar or restaurant, which can end with a very large bill. The three food and dinner experiences in our list are booked at a set price in advance, and every product here has free cancellation.
