Quick answers

How do I visit the Statue of Liberty?

Buy tickets from Statue City Cruises, the only ferry company authorised by the National Park Service; boats leave from Battery Park and also stop at Ellis Island. Crown access is by advance reservation only, so book early.

How much walking is this itinerary?

Between sights it comes to roughly 2.5 to 3.5 km a day in a straight line, plus the ferry and two short subway rides.

3 days in New York

Manhattan's street grid makes New York easy to split into areas, so each day stays in one of them: day one walks Midtown from Grand Central to Central Park and ends in Times Square; day two takes the ferry to the Statue of Liberty, stops at the 9/11 Memorial and crosses the Brooklyn Bridge on foot; day three starts at The Met, then heads down to Chelsea and the High Line before the Empire State Building at night. Book the Statue of Liberty ferry and the Empire State Building before you go.
