Questions
Quick answers
Do I need to book Schönbrunn Palace in advance?
Yes. Palace tickets have fixed admission times, and the palace says genuine tickets are sold online only at imperialtickets.com. The palace park itself is free.
How do tickets work on Vienna's public transport?
A single ticket covers one journey in one direction, with changes allowed. Validate a paper ticket before you travel and it is valid for 80 minutes; tickets bought in the WienMobil app need no validation.
Which days should I plan around?
The Kunsthistorisches Museum is closed on Mondays and the Naschmarkt on Sundays, so if day two falls on a Sunday or day three on a Monday, swap the two days.

3 days in Vienna
Vienna's sights sit in and around the Ringstrasse, the boulevard that circles the old town, so each day keeps to one area: day one walks from St Stephen's Cathedral through the Hofburg to the State Opera; day two starts at Schönbrunn Palace and comes back for the Naschmarkt, the Secession and the Belvedere; day three is for the Kunsthistorisches Museum and the MuseumsQuartier, before an evening ride on the Prater's Giant Ferris Wheel. Book timed tickets for Schönbrunn and the Belvedere before you go.
