Agra, day by day
Agra was the Mughal capital for a century and it still holds three of the buildings that century produced: the Taj Mahal, the marble tomb Shah Jahan built for his wife and finished in 1653, the red sandstone fort his grandfather Akbar raised across the river, and the abandoned palace city of Fatehpur Sikri an hour to the west. Most people give the city half a day between trains and see one of them. Start with three days that give the Taj two visits, the fort a full afternoon, Fatehpur Sikri its own morning and the quieter tombs of the east bank their due, with the entry fees and hours the Archaeological Survey of India publishes for 2026.
