Amman, day by day

Amman is a city of four million on nineteen hills, the Philadelphia of the Romans and the Rabbath Ammon of the Bible, with a Roman theatre for 6,000 in the middle of downtown, a citadel of Bronze Age walls, a Roman temple and an Umayyad palace above it, a museum that holds the oldest statues ever made, and the best-preserved Roman city in the Middle East, the mosaic map of the Holy Land and the lowest point on earth all within an hour's drive. Start with three days that walk the downtown and the citadel, drive north to Jerash and Salt, and go down to Madaba, Mount Nebo, the baptism site and the Dead Sea, with the prices and hours the ministry and the Jordan Pass publish for 2026.

Sources and method

Places and coordinates: Wikidata and Tripwoa's open-data place catalog (Overture Maps Foundation, © OpenStreetMap contributors). Photos: Wikimedia Commons, credited on each image. Practical rules: the official sources linked in each note, checked in September 2026.

How this plan was made: Tripwoa's planner drafted the day order from real coordinates and typical visit times. Each stop was then reviewed, reordered where needed and rewritten with AI assistance. Walking distances are straight-line estimates, so allow a little extra time on real streets.
