Marseille, day by day
Marseille is France's oldest city and its most Mediterranean, a port founded by Greeks 2,600 years ago that now has a golden Virgin on the hill, a lattice-skinned national museum on the old fort, a prison island out of Dumas, a Le Corbusier housing block with a rooftop, a painted cave rebuilt by the harbour, and the white limestone calanques of a national park at the end of the bus line. Start with three days that walk the port and the Panier, sail to the islands, and hike the calanques from Cassis, with the prices and hours the institutions publish for 2026.
