Start around the Colosseum and follow Via dei Fori Imperiali towards Piazza Venezia. Spend the afternoon walking between the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, stopping when a terrace catches your eye.
Going inside the Colosseum and Forum? Book a morning slot and give the ruins room. Save the Vatican Museums for another day rather than squeezing both into one.
