Grand-Place, art and music, then the Atomium

Start with Grand-Place and the covered galleries, finishing the first day with the cathedral and comics. Keep the upper-town art and music museums together on a second day. The last day links the Atomium with Cinquantenaire by public transport; it is not a continuous walking route. Reorder the days around museum opening calendars.

DinnerReturn toward the centre for dinner or stay around the museum district. Chocolate shops and cafés are easy to fit into free time without adding another booked attraction.

Day 2

The upper town: Magritte and musical instruments

Walk through Mont des Arts to the Magritte Museum and Place Royale. After lunch, give the instruments museum a focused visit before finishing around the Sablon.

Church of Our Lady of the Sablon

A Gothic church anchors a district of small shops and squares. Visit the church when open, then give the surrounding streets a short walk before dinner.

  • Plan about 45 min

Evening

DinnerStay around the Sablon for dinner or walk downhill toward the old centre. Extra fine-art collections belong on another visit rather than on top of both museums today.

Day 3

The Atomium and Cinquantenaire

Give the Atomium a full morning visit. After lunch, travel across the city to Cinquantenaire for a park walk and Autoworld. Check the connection and museum closing time before setting out.

  • Plan about 2 h

Midday

LunchEat near the Atomium before the cross-city journey, or travel first and take lunch near your arrival point by Cinquantenaire. The transport allowance is additional to the meal.

Afternoon

Use public transport from the Atomium/Heysel area to the Cinquantenaire area; allow about 45–60 minutes including connections and the final walk. Consult current STIB-MIVB directions. The Google Maps link shows walking rather than this transport leg.

Good to know in Brussels

Museum calendars

  • The Magritte Museum’s official calendar should determine the upper-town museum day. This route visits the museum at Place Royale, which is different from the René Magritte house museum in Jette.Source: Musée Magritte Museum · checked Sep 2026
  • The Musical Instruments Museum normally closes on Mondays and stops ticket sales before the galleries close. Check its last admission time when arranging lunch.Source: Musical Instruments Museum · checked Sep 2026

Tickets and internal routes

  • Online Comic Art Museum tickets are not fast-lane tickets. Admission still needs to be checked, and the museum’s opening calendar includes seasonal exceptions.Source: Comic Art Museum · checked Sep 2026
  • The Atomium panorama uses a lift, while the exhibition route also includes stairs and escalators. Check the detailed route if steps affect your visit; a lift does not make every exhibition level step-free.Source: Atomium · checked Sep 2026

Plan the outer-city day

  • Use the Atomium’s official access page for public transport information and follow the current STIB-MIVB journey plan for the transfer across Brussels.Source: Atomium · checked Sep 2026
  • Autoworld suggests allowing about 90 minutes. Check the day’s opening hours so the park walk does not leave too little time for the collection.Source: Autoworld · checked Sep 2026

3 days in Brussels: quick answers

Is 3 days enough for Brussels?

Three full days cover this selection of the centre, upper-town museums and two outer-city landmarks. Add a day for other specialist museums or a separate visit to another Belgian city.

Can I walk from the Atomium to Cinquantenaire?

This itinerary plans that journey by public transport. The map connects sightseeing pins, but the cross-city leg is excluded from the walking total and has its own time allowance.

Are all the fine-art museums included in the Magritte stop?

No. The route selects the Magritte collection. Read your ticket coverage and add time if you choose other collections.

Does this route include Mini-Europe?

No. If Mini-Europe is a priority, use more of the final day around Heysel and replace the Cinquantenaire afternoon rather than adding another large visit.

Where should I stay?

The historic centre and Brussels-Central area are convenient for the first two days. For other neighbourhoods, check the metro or tram connection to the centre and to the Atomium day.
