Lisbon, day by day

Lisbon spreads over hills above the Tagus, from the Moorish castle and Alfama to the riverside monuments of Belém. Start with three days that give each area its own day, with the opening days and lift closures that matter in 2026.

A river start. A hilltop afternoon.

Begin at Praça do Comércio, then walk through Baixa towards the cathedral and the lanes of Alfama. Take the climb slowly, stopping around Santa Luzia for the view and a break.

Choose São Jorge Castle as your paid highlight, or spend longer in the neighbourhood. Finish around Chiado for dinner; give Belém its own half-day on a longer visit.

Suggested day: central Lisbon and Alfama. Expect hills and uneven paving; use transport to reduce the climbs when needed.

An easy central starting point

Baixa / Chiado

For a first stay near shopping streets and the river. Baixa is flatter; the climb into Chiado makes the exact address matter.

Old lanes & fado evenings

Alfama

For the atmosphere of historic streets and fado. Check stairs, luggage access and the walk from your transport stop.

Shops & relaxed dinner plans

Príncipe Real

For browsing and neighbourhood restaurants above the centre. Our pick if you enjoy a hilltop base and walking between stops.

Official rates checked 12 September 2026. Per person unless stated; concessions may apply. These are individual costs, not a full daily budget. Accommodation, meals and guided tours are separate.

A little planning before you go.

Choose the castle ticket category before buying and check any concession requirements. Compare your planned rides before choosing a day pass; leave Belém for a separate half-day rather than rushing across the city.

How this plan was made: Tripwoa's planner drafted the day order from real coordinates and typical visit times. Each stop was then reviewed, reordered where needed and rewritten with AI assistance. Walking distances are straight-line estimates, so allow a little extra time on real streets.
